We Are What We Think

Filed under: News — chantal @ 3:10 pm

Today our pastor preached a sermon about sin and how it can affect our lives…all in a Christian sense, of course. But he said something that really made me think. He said that our brains are made for taking in information, and whatever we take in, we become. In his reference he was implying that if we take in sinful information and process those thoughts, that is what we become.

But if you take this out of the Christian context, it’s an idea that can really be helpful in all areas of life, not just spiritually. This is an idea that can be used to transform all aspects of life, and be helpful to achieve certain goals.

I want more than anything to be a photographer. I am a photographer, but I want to be recognized as an artist who’s medium is photography. This is something I’ve wanted for as long as I can remember, but it’s only recently that I have seriously pursued this as my vocation. And thinking about what the pastor said today, I realize that I have been successful. I’m not earning any money as a photographer (not yet) but people recognize me as one. They know that this is what I do.

Essentially, I have become what I wanted because I gave myself the full mind-frame of an artist. The information I choose to take in, to fill my head with, the ideas I process, the ideas I express all encompass the mind of an artist. And for the first time in my life, I am beginning to feel that the world is finally seeing the me I know myself to be.

  2. I am a Buddhist and the lines- ‘bad karma is caused by negative thoughts and action’ had quite an impact on me.

I couldn’t believe that even my thoughts were not out of scope in the grand scheme of things.

It is a rather strict rule and you are right if we are able to control our thoughts life would be a richer journey to sail through .

  3. swingingpuss…..I’m inspired by Elvira Black’s article today in Blogcritics about how its rude not to respond to comments on ones blog, and I agree with her, so I apologize for ignoring your comment and do hope you return one day. I am working on getting my photographs online, and I’m writing a few new things that I’ll have up soon. So I appreciate you stopping by.

I really believe that we are so much of the energy we exude…meaning, if we put out positive energy, then that will come back to us. A little positivity goes a long way, right?
