I came across this today…

“A work of art which did not begin in emotion is not art.”

July 4th, 2007: Happy Birthday America

As I wait for the sun to set and fireworks to begin, I’ve been browsing the net and reading emails; and I came across a few appropriate and interesting things:

I. from Conscientious:

“A little patience, and we shall see the reign of witches pass over, their spells dissolve, and the people, recovering their true sight, restore their government to its true principles. It is true that in the meantime we are suffering deeply in spirit, and incurring the horrors of a war and long oppressions of enormous public debt… And if we feel their power just sufficiently to hoop us together, it will be the happiest situation in which we can exist. If the game runs sometimes against us at home we must have patience till luck turns, and then we shall have an opportunity of winning back the principles we have lost, for this is a game where principles are at stake.”

– Thomas Jefferson, letter to John Taylor, June 4, 1798 in The Writings of Thomas Jefferson

II. from The Landscapist:

We, the people, must redeem
Our land, the mines, the plains, the rivers,
The mountains and the endless plain –
All, all the stretch of these great green states –
And make America again!

~ from Let America be America Again by Langston Hughes

(Make sure you click the link and take a look at the accompanying photo.)

III. Finally, from an email sent by Jim Simonson:

Olbermann: Bush, Cheney should resign

Happy 4th, Everyone 🙂

From John Loomis:

“What ultimately counts towards pushing yourself forward creatively is finding the opportunities which will allow you to succeed and grow. Talent is not the x-factor, capitalizing on the right moment is the key.”

Trolling around different blogs and photo-sites this morning, I came across this quote:

“To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place… I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.”

~Elliott Erwitt

Pure genius.
