On Vacation!

I’m on vacation all of this week with my family, and we have limited internet access. We’re visiting my husband’s parents in Warner Robins, GA. It’s been such a wonderful, peaceful, relaxing time so far. The weather has been great, since it’s still early Spring, the unbearable Georgia heat has yet to kick in; and we’re just enjoying the reprieve from the cold Ohio winter.

In addition to Warner Robins, we’re also going to visit my brother in Atlanta and my husband’s grandmother and cousins in Savannah. Of course I’m taking plenty of pictures, many for my SoFoBoMo project… so stay tuned for those when I get back home next week!

Mid-Week Round-up vol. 7: SoFoBoMo & Cool Links

1) My SoFoBoMo project officially began yesterday. But I haven’t really started shooting anything because yesterday was just a regular Tuesday with me spending the majority of my day driving back and forth, picking kids up, dropping kids off, drinking too much coffee, and not getting anything done. And since the main subject is my family spending time together, it would probably be better if we were actually all together. That didn’t happen until after 9pm, at which time my nerves were completely gone and I just made everyone go to bed. The best photo-op of the night was around 11pm when the house was quiet. My camera was the furthest thing from my mind.

2) Are you Bride who wants the coutour Wedding gown, but you only have the David’s Bridal Budget? You soooo need to check out Encore Bridal. Get gently used designer gowns at a fraction of the original price. And a portion of all profits got to charity!

3) One of my favorite photographers… Nissou*. Do yourself a huge favor and check out her work. Better yet, take a peak at her photoblog. She’s a Belgian photographer and she inspires me like no other. Her work is delicate, intimate, and feminine. She has the unique ability to capture a moment and make you feel like you were there in it. Amazing!

4) I love great writing. I love movies and TV shows with intelligent and quick dialog, I love books and magazines that massage my brain with eloquently placed words and phrases. Which is why I LOVE this article written by playwrite and screenwriter Jon Robin Baitz, on the Huffington Post: Not Until The Fat Lady Sings. Politics aside, it’s just a well written piece. And yeah, it helps that I agree with it.

5) I photographed a really fun couple’s engagement pictures over the weekend.  I will be posting them here very soon, but my 5 yr old just informed me that I’m a “mean mommy” because I won’t get off the computer and lay on the couch and cuddle with her.  Yes she’s spoiled, but then again, so am I for being able to just stop what I’m doing to indulge her.  So bye for now…I’ve got some cuddling to do and cartoons to watch.  Pictures to follow soon!

Pro Photo Resource

I’ve been doing really well with posting daily for the past few days, so I didn’t want to let today go by without a blog post…

If you’re a photographer, then you’ll really enjoy checking out Pro Photo Resource.   Like the subtitle of the site says, its a site “for photographers, by photographers”.  There all sorts of articles with shooting tips, techniques, product and book reviews, and awesome advice from the pros.

The highlight of the current issue for me is Jasmine Star’s article.  You’ll have to register to read the full article, but it’s free and totally worth it!

Erin Johnson: Maternity & Family

Last week I had the distinct PRIVILEGE and HONOR to photograph Erin Johnson, the uber-talented children’s photographer based right here in Central, Ohio. Can you say n-e-r-v-o-u-s?? I’m usually fairly confident with myself and what I do, even though I’m usually a little nervous before any shoot (I’m told that’s normal!). But when asked by another photographer to photograph her and her family…my usual level of nerves decided to catapult themselves to astronomical! Erin is 8+ months pregnant with her 4th child and wanted some maternity photos, as well as a few family photos showcasing her three beautiful children and her gorgeous, growing belly.

Erin and I corresponded via email and chatted on the phone, but we had never met until the day of the shoot. When she opened the door to her house, I think my jaw dropped. It’s true that pregnant women glow, but with Erin, you need sunglasses. She is so beautiful and so adorable with her perfectly round belly….you’d never know that she was 37 weeks along with her 4th child! Unbelievable!!

And we had so much fun!! We talked and talked and talked…which put me so at ease. And her husband Sean was so funny (even during his recovery from the Buckeye loss to LSU the night before).

Erin: Thank you so much for trusting me to document such an important time in your amazing family’s life. I’m so proud to help tell your story. It was such a pleasure meeting and getting to know you (the first of many get-togethers to come!). I’m so looking forward to being there with you when your new baby boy is born and I can’t wait to snap his first portrait! THANK YOU!!!

Below are a few of my favorites from our session last week:

We shot a lot of family photos, and they all look great, but I just loved this moment in between the more serious pictures when all eyes were on the camera. This, to me, is a Real Family Moment that so beautifully illustrates the love and fun shared between these 5 people…

I love how they’re all cuddled up on this giant chair. So comfy!!

‘Tis The Season…

The holiday season is officially here, even though it’s probably felt like it’s been here for the past month! I love this time of year, the Holidays, the decorations, the lights, the food, the music! And of course, I love Christmas for honoring the birth of our Saviour. Every time I hear “Oh Holy Night” sung by Celine Dion, I am brought to tears… amazing!!

Celine Dion-Oh Holy night

How many of you braved the crowds this past weekend to find that perfect gift at an amazing price? I love to shop, and I love the hustle and bustle of holiday shopping, but the crowds of Thanksgiving weekend are a bit too much for me. I spent my weekend AT HOME, with my husband and kids, eating leftovers, watching movies, and battling the beginnings of a cold that I really, really hope doesn’t get the best of me! So far only my voice is losing this war, but the rest of me seems to be in tact 🙂

One thing that I’m really excited about this year is participating in the “‘Tis The Season Photoblog”, started by Justin Gaynor. It’s a collaborative photoblog by photographers from all different backgrounds and cultures, highlighting how we all celebrate the holidays, what this time of year means to us. Be sure to bookmark it and check it out daily, there will be a new entry every day. And make sure to check it on December 9th, that’s when I will be submitting!

Enjoy what’s left of your Sunday and have a great week everyone! I’ll be posting plenty of photos this week, including a great engagement session and AWESOME wedding from earlier this month. I’m so excited about these pictures, I can’t wait to share!!

Jody & Adam: Parents to be

Because I am so passionate about what I do, it’s only natural that I become so attached to the people I photograph. After a photo session, whether it’s portraits, or a wedding, I always feel a little sad that my time with the people I’m shooting is over, because they all are so incredible! I’m so blessed to have such amazing clients! Lucky for me, I’ll be seeing more of Jody and Adam after the birth of their precious son, for his very first portraits! I had a wonderful afternoon with the two of them for this maternity session. And Adam was so great, even when we pulled him away from the Buckeye game to jump into a few photos.

Their baby is due in February, so be on the look-out for some baby pictures then…in the meantime, here are a few of my favorites from our maternity session:

My favorite:

Their dog, Ginger, is so cute! She kept trying to get into the pictures, so I had to show her some photo love. She returned the favor by licking my lens!
