The Cost Of A Wedding

Filed under: internet,Weddings — chantal @ 2:32 pm

(wow, 2 posts in one day!!!)

I came across this website that lists information regarding weddings based on location. Here is what I learned:

In the U.S.~
*In 2007 there were an estimated 2,290,578 weddings
*The average length of an engagement is 17 months
*Average wedding budget is $14,250
*the average spent is $28,800
*Average ages are 26-bride, 28-groom
*average cost of wedding photography is $2373

In the Columbus, Ohio area~
*It is projected that the average couple will spend $29,090 on their 2008 Wedding
*The average spent on the reception is $14,885
*The average spent on Photography and video combined is $3875
*The most popular month for weddings is July, followed by August

Interesting food for thought, for those planning their 2008 Weddings! I know the cost can be astronomical, especially for a young couple just starting out. But what little girl didn’t dream about her fairytale wedding? And what Prince Charming wouldn’t want to give his Bride the wedding of her dreams? If you ask me, the expense is totally worth it because you’ll only do this once, and you’ll remember it, and cherish the photographs for the rest of your life!

Browsing the web, I also came across an article about Wedding Etiquette (who pays for what, etc.). Some of it seems a bit out of date, but it’s still interesting. Here is a snippet of the article:

Wedding etiquette suggests the bride pays for:

* The ring for the groom
* Gifts for her attendants
* A gift for the groom
* Some brides also pay for accommodations for out-of-town guests

Wedding etiquette suggests the groom pays for:

* The bride’s engagement ring and wedding ring
* The honeymoon
* A gift for the bride
* The marriage license
* Gifts for his groomsmen/ushers/ring bearer
* Accommodation for out-of-town groomsmen/ushers
* The bride’s bouquet
* The bride’s going-away corsage
* Corsages for mothers and/or other special ladies
* The boutonnieres for men in the wedding party
* The gloves, ties and accessories for the men in the wedding party
* Fee for clergyperson or judge

Wedding etiquette suggests the groom’s family pays for:

* Rehearsal dinner
* A gift for the newlyweds

Wedding etiquette suggests the bride’s family pays for:

* The costs of the reception
* The bride’s attire/trousseau
* Invitations, announcements, thank you notes (including mailing costs)
* Photographer
* Videographer
* Ceremony costs
* Transportation for bridal party from ceremony to reception
* All gratuities for all services: parking, security, etc.
* Bridesmaid luncheon

I do believe this list is out of date though, because I remember reading somewhere (not sure where) how most couples fund their own Weddings almost entirely themselves.

Interesting, nonetheless.

  1. Wow, I never realized just how expensive weddings really are. I guess a little money here and a little money there really adds up in the end. So all you brides out there, make sure you get your priorities straight when you start spending money. Take care of the most important things first in case you end up cutting back at the end. I would think photography would be near the top of the list!! And if family is helping fund the big day, it is always nice to get them something special to show your appreciation.

  2. Thanks for the stats Chantal. Like Gina says, photography should be on the top of the list. Of all things purchased for a wedding, the photographs may be the thing that last the longest.

  7. They want to look romantic and they want to have
    a romantic memory. The lavish beauty of a pink engagement ring will astound even the
    most discriminating admirer. Like color, we can settle for impure diamonds because
    our normal, human eyes won’t be able to see them.

  8. Want a photographer who will leave you with heirloom quality photos you’ll cherish for many years. In her response, Wagner takes a novel approach: start with the gross take in an average wedding season, then subtract various business and living expenses from it. Due to this, having the easiest photographs is needed.

  9. This public health concern has also created a market
    for products that claim to reduce the possible
    harmful effects of the radio frequency waves. Both the American Medical Association and Mayo Clinic, where
    information for this report was obtained, I’m sure will continue to do studies to determine if there is any link to health risks in this somewhat controversial debate. I aimed a canister of mace at his head, and he aimed his can at mine.

  12. Interesting read! I’ve been considering whether to sell
    my motor for quite a while now. I really struggle to hear about good online car buyers in
    my local area – well, until I came across a reputable network of car dealers.

    See trusted car buyers can be quite difficult to find on the Internet these days – unless you know where has been approved.

    I’m asked, continually, for help with people’s gardens. Perhaps you want to do
