Off-topic Randomness

~~~It’s December 12th and I haven’t done ANY Christmas shopping yet! I know time is running out, so I plan to do my online purchases today or tomorrow, and then my husband and I are planning to spend an entire day together shopping this weekend. THAT alone, is gift enough for me 🙂
~~~I put up our Christmas tree yesterday. I’ll post a photo later this week. So pretty!

~~~Those weekly-special Old Navy commercials are driving me NUTS! The one last week was so lame, every time it started when that girl pulled the hood off of her head….AHHHHhh!! So annoying! This week’s is even worse.
~~~I promise you that I’m a good mom. I love my kids to DEATH!! But I admit they are just a teeny bit spoiled, and last Christmas they drove me crazy with the “I want this…”, “I want that…”! Ughhh! I want to give them everything, but I want them to have a little perspective too. So when the I-want’s got to be too much, I made them look at this website. The photography is incredible… the subject matter is not for the weak at heart. It brought all three kids to tears, and they didn’t ask for a single thing after that. I felt bad, but it was worth it. Once they saw how other children live in other parts of the world, they immediately began to appreciate how we live here. It gave Christmas a whole new meaning to them. Ahhhh, perspective! It’s a beautiful thing.

~~~My favorite Holiday movie is Love Actually.
~~~Here’s a photo from the Westerville Holiday Spectacular last weekend. The show was nothing short of MAGICAL!

During the all day dress rehearsals on Friday I was able to photograph the performances. I also shot some backstage, and again on Saturday during the performances. It’s such a treat to combine two things that I totally love: photography and my daughter’s dance. The photos are going to be used for some future promotions and they will also be sold to the families of the dancers. The profits will go towards Competition fundraising. This year, in addition to the two regional competitions in February and March, we’ll be going to Disney World to dance in July.

  1. I still can’t wrap my head around that it’s mid december.I see Xmas commercials and I think “Already? it’s so early!” then I remember.

    I love that picture. All glowy and haunting, the angle just perfect.

  2. Even though I don’t have kids (though I do have 7 nieces and nephews to shop for spread out across the globe), I know what you mean about the greed factor. Each one of them has more than enough and it makes it difficult for me to get in the spirit of furthering the gluttony. I would much rather donate money to a children’s charity, but my mother says the kids are still too young to understand (ranging in ages from 1.5 to 12). I think if I showed them pictures like this they might get the idea. However, I don’t want to look like a scrooge, so I go along with it.

    Anyway, great pictures as always and good luck with getting your shopping done!

  4. I saw this photo on “Tis the Season” and I love it!

    I usually decorate the day after Thanksgiving, but this year we were waiting until the new roof is done…Well they haven’t gotten here to do it yet! “This week” was their answer.

    I finally broke down and put the candles in the windows, and set up one of the two trees, and put a wreath on the door just this weekend. I know that getting a new roof shakes dust from places unseen and makes a mess and I am not dealing with that so this year will be “Christmas Deco Lite”. It’s definitely not helping to get me in the Spirit. I started my shopping on Saturday…I am so far behind.

    That website link is very sobering. Thanks for the reminder that we have so much o be grateful for and shouldn’t complain too much. I guess I really shouldn’t get so upset at not having my house cluttered with Christmas Decorations after all?

    I think my kids are finally getting to the point where they aren’t as greedy as they used to be, and we don’t spoil them at Christmas like we used to. They really didn’t have long lists this year. My middle son is costing us plenty right now as I pay for each of his college applications so I think he is afraid to ask for much anyway. My youngest is just not a high maintenance kid so he asked for just a handful of things and some clothes, not expensive trendy ones either.

    My oldest, well he is in Iraq and doesn’t ask for anything. We will send him things but he has asked for nothing. He is not a bit greedy I think he grew out of that quickly.
