Today I received my first rejection of the year. I met with a couple a few weeks ago about possibly shooting their wedding later this summer. We had a great conversation, I felt we connected nicely. I described my shooting style (as best I could–I’m still trying to figure it out) and we talked about everything under the sun, sharing many laughs.
But ultimately, they decided to go with another photographer. In a very kind email, they explained why they chose someone they felt could provide more within the same budget.
Oh well…you win some, you lose some. It was a great experience meeting such a warm couple. And at least I had good conversation over coffee. Sometimes, you can’t ask for more than that.

I most certainly know the feeling!
Although I don’t shoot weddings, I deal with rejections on a regular basis, and learn from them.
But, those rejections are becoming fewer and fewer as I move along.
Just keep shooting, continue to learn, … and enjoy yourself while you are at it!

Thanks for the comment!
The surprising part of it all is seeing how little this rejection bothers me. Yes, I would have LOVED to shoot this wedding, but I know that more opportunities will present themselves, so I’m not worried about it.
There was a time when a simple rejection would have sent me questioning my worth as a photographer.
It’s nice to see one’s own growth, both photographically and personally.

You seem to be taking it well, and thats what will keep you going and defiantly get the next opportunity that comes up!
Good Luck.

Shooting weddings will toughen you up for anything that anyone will throw at you in life!
I learned that one a long time ago.
Keep at it!

We interviewed two photographers for our wedding. We chose one just because his style fit our needs more, but we wound up using the other for a smaller job. Never underestimate the long term impact of a positive encouter.
